Aims and Objectives
This programme is a one year programme which offers you challenging studies and provides a pathway to your professional qualification as designer in different industries. It gives you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in your preferred design discipline.
At the end of the course, students will have:
- Sound theoretical knowledge of the various functional elements related to design;
- A high level of communication and interpersonal skill;
- Develop skills in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tols and techniques;
- Conduct and manage design projects using CAD technology.

Course Structure

| Computer Foundations (RHK DAC005) |
The purpose of this module is to introduce students to computers and computer software related to art and design fields. Students use text and data entry to create documents, scan or download images and produce graphics using digital manipulation and drawing techniques

| Art History (RHK DAD008) |
This module enables students to identify and explore art history as a field of study in order to reflect on selected art and design objects in social and historical contexts and apply an overview of art history as a basis for the thematic development of practical art and design briefs.

| Media Studies (RHK DAD010) |
This module enables students to identify and explore the conventions and concepts of visual representation used in the still and time based photo media. Students will discuss the visual histories of photography, film and television in terms of aesthetics, design and production techniques to create visual narratives and storyboards for specific briefs.

| Drawing (RHK DAD011) |
This module enables students to develop confidence in mark making by exploring a variety of drawing media, techniques and methods. Learners will discuss Western Drawing conventions and cultivate individual art and design expression through drawing.

| 2D Studies I (RHK DAD012) |
This module enables students to identify and apply principles of organization to 2D image making in the context of fine art and design. Students will gather visual, conceptual and practical reference materials in a diary to develop create ideas into final art and / or design works for specific briefs.

| 2D Studies II (RHK DAD016) |
This module enables students to develop familiarity and confidence with selected 2D techniques, methods and materials and develop self directed strategies for the development of creative 2D art and design relevant to specific disciplines. Students will apply individual expression and aesthetic considerations and in the development of 2D art and design works accordance with specific briefs.

| 3D Studies I (RHK DAD013) |
This module enables students to identify and discuss built and natural objects in the environment in relation to systems of organsing forms in 3D space. Students will examine basic architectural and sculptural considerations and apply relevant materials, methods and techniques for creating 3D art and design works to produce simple constructions / marquettes based on principles of organization and visual 3D references in the environment.

| 3D Studies II (RHK DAD017) |
This module enables students to develop familiarity and confidence with selected 3D techniques, methods and materials and develop self directed strategies for the development of creative 3D art and design relevant to specific disciplines. Students will apply individual expression and aesthetics considerations in the development of 3D art and design work in accordance with specific briefs.

| Career Studies (RHK DAD014) |
This module enables students to identify and develop basic business and communication skills for a range of selected art and design industry applications. Students will identify potential career opportunities by examining and discussing a range of design work and professional activities, technology and public profiles of designers and / or companies in the context of the art and design industries.

| Introduction to Cultural Studies (RHK DAD022) |
This module gives students the knowledge and skills to reflect upon the interaction between design and art and associated cultural and social values.

| Colour Theory (RHK DAD020) |
This module introduces students to the skills needed to identify and apply basic colour theories to design processes.

| Major Portfolio Project (RHK DAD019) |
This module enables students to undertake an in depth self directed major portfolio project in one or more of the following areas: drawing, painting, 3D art or design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and photo media. Students will apply individual expression and aesthetics consideration in the preparation and negotiation of a project proposal for a body or final portfolio work that is coherent in creative intent, concept development and execution.

Method of Teaching
There are Full-time Mode and Part-time Mode for students to choose from. 36 hours of and 24 hours face-to-face lectures per module are provided for Full-time and Part-time Mode programme respectively.
Duration
There are 4 intakes per year, commencing in January, April, July and October. Students who have the relevant qualifications can seek exemptions. It takes a total of 12 months for Full-time Mode and 12 months for Part-time Mode for completion of the programme.
Assessment
Students will be assessed by a combination of Assessment Methods, ranging from Assignments, Quizzes, Short Tests and Examinations.
Admission Requirement
Interested applicants must possess ONE of the following requirements
- 2 passes in HKCEE including English Language (Syllabus B) or equivalent; or
- Aged 18 years old or above with substantial work experiences will be considered on case by case basis; and
- English proficiency proof
*For students who do not meet the above requirement, placement test will be given.
Credit Exemption
Credit exemption may be considered on case by case basis. The administration fee for applying credit exemption is HK$500. Please contact our programme consultant for further details.
Application Procedure
Interested applicants must possess ONE of the following requirements:
- 2 photocopies of academic certificates/transcripts to be certified as 'true copy' by Hong Kong Raffles School of Continuing Education.
